I saw there was a video on the product page with only the single-angle low-res photo. Now I have a Windows 10 on a x64 AMD platform, about 5 years old.It has a LPT1 port, recognized in windows, but all the tools I remembered using do no longer work in Windows 10 and the compatibility modes are nonsense so far.You can also, of course, install a JiffyDOS ROM directly on your computer; the modern JiffyDOS ROM is fully compatible with the SD2IEC drive.
The EF3 lets you store 8 overlay ROMS and 7 program ROMs at the same time. You can also transfer files over USB, apparently both to the C64 and directly to disk. It also works with the SD2IEC and will speed up most program loads. My testing shows I get about 30 blocks a second, rather than 2 blocks a second using the standard 1541 DOS. Quite some modern motherboard have the headers on the PCB as I found out myself yesterday. Most apps such as Star commander and CBMXfer ran fine, but the drive remained quiet unfortunately. I figure something goes wrong between the LPT header on my main board and 1541, but cant seem to find it. The Mach3 CNC control program made use of such bit banging on the parallel port for years and its original author said that the way it worked was more like Mach3 was a virus allowing Windows some time to run. Evidently this same methodology was used by actual viruses so they closed it down. I used it primarily for converting unprotected disks to D64 images and it worked well at the time. Lpt1 Port Problems Drivers I FoundI made a DOS boot CD with some Panasonic DOS USB drivers I found long ago. I boot with the CD and it detects my Kensington 1GB Fat32 formatted flash drive. I then use StarCommander to convert floppies from my 1541 drive into D64 to the 1 GB flash drive. After Im done copying floppies I remove the boot CD, boot normally and am then able to access the D64 files I converted from Windows. Clearly thats a 1541 serial port, but its unclear what the other connector is below it; its obviously not a USB, its too big to be VGA and too small to be LPT. I also have several micro-USBs (the common phone standard now). I just did a series of three videos on setting on up and using it.
